You will probably want to speak to other dive centres and scuba schools before making your decision about where you want to learn to dive, if you do, the following information will be useful.
How do other Dive Centres Teach the PADI System?
The real value of the PADI system lies in its flexibility to suit students of all ages, lifestyles and learning styles.
Unfortunately, the approach most other UK Dive Centres have to take to the PADI system is determined by their very limited access to good pool facilities and the high number of students they need to cram into limited 'time-slots' as a result. Most of those Dive Centres will have to teach you as part of a large group (sometimes 10 or more !) and need you to attend at least 4 sessions in a public pool.
The 4 pool sessions are usually non negotiable, inflexible and often at an inconvenient time in the evening or weekend. If a session is scheduled to last 90 minutes, it usually means you'll have about 60 mins 'in-water' due to the length of time it takes to get such a large group organised with the right kit etc etc. - of that 60 minutes, you can expect to spend at least 40 minutes kneeling on the pool floor, watching other people do the required exercises as opposed to getting chance to practice them yourself.
Different students learn in different ways and at a different pace to each other. Sadly, when you're part of a large group, your individual learning style & requirements can't be catered for. So if you're a really fast learner, the group pace can become very frustrating or, worse still, if you're a little anxious, it can be intimidating and may even put you off diving altogether!
Being in a large group on a restricted timescale is not a guarantee of high standards and personal attention - it can often be quite the opposite!
With Scuba First's fast-track PADI Open Water Referral course, you'll learn to scuba-dive one-to-one with your own PADI Instructor and become PADI qualified in a single, really enjoyable day.
Other UK dive centres cannot match what we do, the way we do it or the price we do it for !
